Going Zero Waste | Re-purposing Your Georganics Jars
We use widely recyclable glass jars with aluminium lids to package our natural oral care products. This is great because both of these materials can be recycled an infinite amount of time meaning that if they are disposed of properly, they stay in the loop indefinitely.
Although recycling is a big leap toward living a more environmentally friendly and low-impact lifestyle, the most eco-friendly and zero-waste practice is always to re-purpose your jars and bottles at home.
To help inspire you we've collated 10 of our favourite #zerowastetoothpaste re-uses of empty Georganics jars and bottles by us and submissions from other Georganics lovers.
#1 AS A TRAVEL SIZED CONTAINER
Our 60ml jars are perfect for using as a travel container for taking your Natural Toothpaste or Oil Pulling Mouthwash on holiday with you. They are also perfectly suited to decanting your other products into too. In the photo below @revival.collective have used our jar to keep coconut oil in to remove makeup.
#2 TO STORE HOMEMADE DEODORANT
We've seen a couple of people like @mknight1234 use our jars as a container for their homemade natural deodorants. Making your own deodorant at home is ideal if you want to know exactly what ingredients are going into the products you are putting on your skin and guarantee that they are all 100% natural. If you fancy giving it a go, we recommend this recipe from Simple Green Smoothies.
#3 CONTAINER FOR HOMEMADE COFFEE SCRUB
Coffee scrubs are not only good for getting rid of dead skin, the caffeine also increases blood flow to your skin and they are full of anti-oxidants. Our Natural Toothpaste and Toothpowder jars make for the perfect plastic-free container. This is also an excellent zero-waste way to use up leftover coffee grounds from your French Press or Percolator and only uses four different ingredients - coconut oil, sugar, coffee grounds, and cinnamon. Here's an easy recipe from Revival Collective.
#4 CONTAINER FOR YOUR FAVOURITE SNACK
Use our Toothpaste and Toothpowder jars as a plastic-free container for your favourite snack like these pumpkin seeds below our a homemade trail mix like member of the Georganics team, Hermione. We're big advocates of heading to our local bulk store and buying our favourite nuts, seeds and dried fruit to carry around with us in a little container for when hunger strikes.
#5 A HERB OR SPICE JAR
Instead of buying a new spice jar every time, why not make like member of the Georganics team, Alessandro - buy loose and store your spices in our jars or bottles? They are airtight so your dried herbs or spices will keep for a long time without spoiling. Our smaller jars are perfect for this.
#6 A PLANT POT
As you know, we're big fans of nature and the natural world. Seeing you re-use our glass jars as the new home for a little plant like @mammayogini fills us with joy. They are perfect for nurturing seedlings. Fill with some soil and plant a seed or a cutting. You can never have too much green in the world.
#7 CONTAINER FOR YOUR SOLID REFILLS
Fill the bigger Natural Toothpaste and Toothpowder jars and bottles from our Oil Pulling Mouthwash with dry stores like beans, lentils, couscous, quinoa and stock powder... the list goes on. Georganics fan @zafepennington has filled hers with Cannelini beans.
#8 BOTTLE FOR YOUR LIQUID REFILLS
You can also use our glass bottles to store your liquid detergent, shampoo or conditioner when going to the refill station like member of the Georganics team, Natasha has in this image below.
#9 A TOOTHBRUSH POT
A great way to re-use your oil pulling mouthwash bottle or mouthwash tablets jar is as a toothbrush pot for your Bamboo toothbrush. They have a tendency to go mouldy if they get wet, so keeping them on the side of the sink isn't always the best idea. However, they will stay nice and dry if you put them in one of our jars like @zafepennington has below.
#10 A CANDLE HOLDER
Alternatively, you can use our Oil Pulling Mouthwash bottles and Natural Toothpaste and Toothpowder jars as a candle holder or a vessel for your own homemade natural candles. Our Oil Pulling Mouth bottles work well for candlesticks and our Natural Toothpaste jars as tea light holders - see Hermione's image below. You can also use our Mouthwash Tablet bottles and the other jars to house your homemade candles too. Thinking about making your own candles? Why not try out this recipe from Mother Nature Network.
We always love seeing the creative ways you re-use our packaging. Tag us in your picture on Instagram @georganicsuk with the hashtag #zerowastetoothpaste and you could be in with the chance of winning a £100 Georganics voucher.
